Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 September 2026

The short version. Baseline reads your Apple Health data on your iPhone and does its thinking there, including the AI. There is no account, no analytics, and nothing is ever sold or shared. Two things are worth stating plainly rather than glossing: Baseline writes back to Apple Health the things you log yourself, and looking up a food by name or barcode sends that query — and nothing else — to public nutrition databases.

This policy explains what Baseline ("the app", "we", "us") does and does not do with your information. It applies to the Baseline iPhone app and its Apple Watch app and widgets.

1. Health & fitness data

With your permission, Baseline reads data from Apple Health (HealthKit), which may include activity (steps, distance, energy, exercise), heart and vitals (heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, blood oxygen), sleep, body measurements, nutrition, mindfulness, and — if you enable it separately — Health Records such as lab results, conditions, medications, and clinical notes.

2. The AI health coach

Baseline's "Ask Baseline" coach and daily read run on-device using Apple's built-in intelligence (the Apple Foundation Models on-device language model) on supported iPhones, or a local rule-based engine on other devices. Your questions and your health data are processed on the device and are not sent to us, to Apple's servers, or to any cloud service for processing. Baseline does not use any third-party or cloud language model.

3. What leaves your device

Your health data does not. Three ordinary web requests do, and only when you actively use the food features:

These requests carry the query alone. No identifier, no health data, and nothing that describes you travels with them, and none of them happens unless you are actively searching or scanning. Photographs of meals are read on your device and are never uploaded.

4. What we collect

Nothing. Baseline has no user accounts and no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not collect your name, email, device identifiers, location, usage, or health data. We do not use cookies. As a result we hold no personal information about you, and cannot access, sell, or share it.

5. Notifications

If you allow notifications, Baseline may schedule local reminders on your device — a morning read, an evening nudge, a wind-down, a weekly recap, or a lab recheck. Each is separately switchable in Settings. They are generated and delivered locally by iOS, and their content is never sent to us.

6. Data storage & sync

Preferences and cached readings are stored locally on your device, and for widgets in a private on-device app group container. Your own Baseline settings — your goals, units and dismissals — sync between your Apple devices through your private iCloud key-value store, which is your iCloud account and not ours. Health data itself syncs, if at all, through Apple Health's own iCloud sync. Deleting the app removes its local storage. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side.

7. Children

Baseline is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them — we do not collect information from anyone.

8. Third parties

Baseline integrates no third-party analytics, advertising, or data brokers. Apple's Health and on-device intelligence frameworks operate on your device under Apple's own privacy terms. The nutrition databases named in section 3 receive only a food query. This website is served as static files and does not track visitors.

9. Your rights

Because your data stays on your device and under your control, you can view, export, or delete it directly through the Apple Health app and iOS Settings at any time. Revoking Baseline's Health permissions immediately stops it from reading or writing any category.

10. Not medical advice

Baseline is a wellness and informational tool, not a medical device, and does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about your health, and before making decisions based on anything the app shows you.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and post the new version on this page.
